Dude, Where's My Mickmail?

Teaser

Not getting your weekly Mickmail? Here's why not (maybe) and what to do about it.

Body

So, you signed up for Mickmail, but you've never gotten it.

Or maybe you signed up for it, got for a time ... but, now, suddenly, it's stopped coming.

There are a couple of reasons why you might be Mickmail-deprived. Very, very sad. We'll try to help.

If you signed up for Mickmail, but never got it:

Odds are pretty good that you misspelled your e-mail address when you signed up. At any given time, there are 15 or 16 e-mail addresses in our queue consigned to "non-existent addresses." When we look at the addresses, it looks like a letter was left out, or maybe some letters were transposed ("irsh" instead of "irish," for example, or "blarnye" instead or "blarney").

Doing either one of those things will cause your e-mail to sail off into Nowhere Land. So if you signed up for Mickmail, but have never received it, send us a quick note, using our online contact form. Select: "Dude, where's my Mickmail?"

If you signed up for Mickmail and it came for a while, but then it suddenly stopped:

We can't say for sure, but one reason might be that your Internet Service Provider -- Comcast, for example -- is blocking e-mails delivered by the vendor we use, Constant Contact. It's hard to say why this happens, but occasionally it does.

Here's a boilerplate e-mail you can send to your ISP. You don't have to understand all the technical mumbo-jumbo. Rest assured, you ISP will understand. Just cut and paste the bold-faced text below into your e-mail. And do remember to replace all the XXXX's with the pertinent info.

To: ISP Customer Support
Subject: Remove Constant Contact Block

Hello. My name is XXXX and I have been a customer of your services since XXXX. I understand that you employ filters and/or blacklists to protect customers like me from unsolicited email; however, this has made it impossible for me to receive newsletters, announcements, and promotions that I have requested. I value these communications and would like to receive them using this email address.

The sender of these emails uses an email marketing service called Constant Contact. Constant Contact is not an open relay and has strict anti-spam policies in place. Because your filters block emails from Constant Contact I am unable to receive these communications.

I ask that you please help me determine why these emails are being blocked. For further information about Constant Contact or to request more information from them such as log files, the Ops team can be reached at - 781.472.8103 or ops@constantcontact.com.

Mail from Constant Contact can be found with the following characteristics:
"Envelope from:" domains:

@in.constantcontact.com
@in.confirmedcc.com

Sending IP’s

Beginning in March of 2008 Constant Contact will start to migrate all outbound mail IP’s to one consolidated block. This may take over a year to complete and IP’s will be removed from the list below once they are defunct. All future mail from Constant Contact will be sent from:

IP Range: 208.75.123.0 - 208.75.123.255
CIDR: 208.75.123.0/24
Network/Netmask: 208.75.123.0 255.255.255.0

If you would like to know exactly which IP’s in this block are in use, please contact ops@constantcontact.com

Legacy IP addresses still sending these emails:
66.151.234.154     ccm17.constantcontact.com

Please contact me when this problem has been resolved.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX

We hope this helps. We also want to reassure you that Constant Contact has strict anti-spam policies. That's why we picked 'em. They also offer a handy little tool (we use it) that screens our Mickmails for known "spam" words before we ship them out to you. Our spam score is always 0.0. (That's the best score you can get.)

Additionally, the only thing we know about you is your e-mail address. We don't know your name, address, phone number, dress size, favorite '70s band or anything else personal about you. We don't want to know. (Hey, if you like Foghat, we figure that's your business.)

We maintain records of your e-mail address so we know where to send your Mickmail, but we don't and won't sell or share your address with anybody -- not no way, not no how.
