Christmas Ceili 2006
Christmas Ceili 2006
I can't dance. Don't ask me.

OK, actually, someone did ask me. At one point during the annual Christmas Ceili on Friday night at the Irish Center, a helpful soul suggested that if I was going to keep showing up at dances, I was just going to have to learn.

Well, thanks, really, but if you value your toes, you will let me sit at the bar, nurse a Smithwick's, and just watch you guys.

I see you all whirling about, and you're weaving all these intricate patterns out on the hardwood floor of the Fireplace Room—it's like geometry set to music—and I am flat-out envious. You make it look so smooth, so effortless.

Amazingly enough, you are not ramming into each other face-first, tumbling over the folding metal chairs, wandering into the hearth, or impaling yourself on a fiddler's bow. Let me assure you: I would do all of those things, and far, far worse.

So for now, a sincere and admiring toast to your tootsies. And in honor of your talent and grace, we offer this video of the 2006 Christmas Ceili on our YouTube channel known as MickFlicks.
