There are only a few rules. If you want to ride on a float wearing that coveted sash in the AOH parade in Conshohocken, scheduled for March 15, 2008, you must be of Irish birth or descent, live in Montgomery County and have done something positive to help the community, Irish and otherwise.
You’ll be feted at the Grand Marshal’s Ball at the Jeffersonville Banquet Hall on March 8 from 6 to 10, when Grand Marshal 2007 Ed Halligan will hand over the reins to you.
Send your application letter to: Grand Marshal Candidate , 342 Jefferson St. Swedesburg, PA, 19405 by Tuesday, December 10. The winner will be announced on December 15.
The theme of the 2006 parade will be “Sharin’ the Green” and will aid “The Hibernian Hunger Project.” The parade committee will set up locations along the parade route for you to donate canned and dry goods for those less fortunate. The Project, which was founded in the Delaware Valley, is carried out by AOH divisions across the country, which run food drives and hold “cook-ins” to prepare meals.
And, of course, there will be plenty of band, dancers, marchers and craic, as always.
