Sometimes the competition got a little unfriendly, as in this confrontation.

August 17, 2007 -- Eire Og Junior C manager Gerry McKnight was expected to undergo surgery this week to repair a badly broken arm after he was knocked to the ground by an opposing player while he stood on the sidelines Sunday, August 12, at Cardinal Dougherty High School.

The on-field excitement generated by two talented teams--the Eire Ogs and the St. Patricks--quickly turned to sideline drama because of fears that McKnight, a heart transplant recipient who is on kidney dialysis, might be seriously injured. An ambulance took him to Albert Einstein Medical Center where doctors were expected to operate to repair his arm with bone taken from his hip, according to Siobhan Trainor, wife of Aidan Trainor, Eire Og manager, who visited McKnight in the hospital.

Your last chance to see live Gaelic sports in Philly this year comes on Sunday, August 19, when the Kevin Barrys and Tyrones go at it for the hurling trophy. Winner of this match will go to Chicago’s Gaelic Park on Labor Day Weekend for the American League finals. That game starts at 12:30 PM, and is followed at 2.00 pm by the Young Ireland vs. Kevin Barry in Junior A football and at 3:30 PM by Eire Og vs St. Patricks in Junior C action. At 5.00 pm, the Kevin Barry's meet Tyrone in the Intermediate division.

And that’s all, folks, until next June.
