Philadelphia Celtic Currach Club Hosts 2006 Regatta

The weather report forecast rain, and lots of it. So it was with some trepidation that members of the PCCC awoke Saturday morning. They expected the worst.

The heat and humidity of a Philadelphia summer were their usual oppressive, broken only occasionally by a playful water fight along the banks of the Delaware. The clouds threatened throughout the morning and most of the early afternoon, but the threatened rain didn't materialize until about 3, at which point most of the races had been run.

And tough races they were, crews racing to the buoy about a mile upriver, then fighting it out at the turn, and drawing on ever-dwindling reserves of stamina to make it back home. (The photos tell all.)

And then ... buckets.

The teams beached their boats and headed for the Columbus C.C. clubhouse ... and a well-deserved post-regatta party.
